Ericsson developed this file extension and named it AMR. It stands for the Adaptive Multi-Rate ACELP Codec file. It means that AMR file format used for encoding speech-based audio files, voice recording, and VoIP applications. You can save every AMR file in two different extensions, AMR-NB (Narrowband) and AMR-WB (Wideband). The only difference between these two is that a Wideband provides better sound quality.
